Robot Simulation Model with Sim-to-Real Verification Unveiled
Robotics company WE Robotics has set out to build a physical AI development ecosystem by unveiling humanoid robot simulation technology. The core of the initiative is to provide an environment where AI models can be developed and verified without the need for actual robots.
Wiro Robotics announced on the 29th that it has released the simulation model and Sim-to-Real verification results of the humanoid 'ALLEX'. This release was carried out as the first step of the physical AI technology roadmap.
Physical AI refers to artificial intelligence technology that enables robots to perceive, judge, and act upon their real-world environment. Recently, in the field of humanoid robots, development methods that connect simulation-based learning with actual application are becoming widespread.
The newly unveiled ALLEX simulation model focused on reducing the gap between the actual robot and the simulation. It is explained that the model's accuracy was enhanced by verifying the consistency between the simulation results and actual movements.
The model is provided in various formats, such as MJCF for MuJoCo, USD for Isaac Sim, and URDF for ROS. This allows developers to conduct research on robot control, learning, and synthetic data generation without actual hardware.
In addition, it was presented as a feature that enhances the accuracy of physics-based simulations by reflecting the backdrivability and force transparency characteristics of actual robots.
Wiro Robotics plans to build an ecosystem where external researchers and developers can participate by gradually releasing the technology accumulated during the development of humanoid robots.
The company stated that it can develop AI algorithms and verify performance through a simulation environment even before the robot's launch. It also plans to pursue the expansion of research linked with actual hardware in the future.
CEO Kim Yong-jae stated, “Simulation models are the infrastructure that serves as the foundation for learning and verification in robot development,” adding, “We plan to build an ecosystem where developers can check the feasibility of applying them to real-world environments in advance.”
Wiro Robotics also plans to supply the ALLEX research platform by the end of this year.
