Cost-Optimized 'PolarFire Core FPGA and SoC' Launched
Microchip Technology (Korea representative: Byung-Don Han) has launched 'PolarFire® Core FPGA and SoC' with enhanced price competitiveness.
As bill of materials (BOM) costs rise in the semiconductor market, developers are looking for ways to optimize their budgets while maintaining performance.
Accordingly, Microchip has introduced a new model that maintains the strengths of the existing PolarFire family while reducing costs.
The new PolarFire Core device eliminates the integrated serial transceiver compared to existing products, reducing the price by up to 30 percent while maintaining low power consumption, security, and reliability.
It is optimized for a variety of fields, including automotive, industrial automation, medical, communications, defense, and aerospace, and is equipped with single event upset (SEU) tolerance to provide stable performance in mission-critical environments.
The PolarFire Core family integrates a quad-core 64-bit RISC-V® microprocessor to support flexible computational processing, while maintaining pin-to-pin compatibility with the entire PolarFire FPGA family to maximize design flexibility. This allows it to be applied to a variety of applications that prioritize cost efficiency.
“As FPGA vendors continue to increase their prices, OEMs are challenged to meet cost and power consumption standards,” said Bruce Weyer, vice president of Microchip’s FPGA business unit. “The PolarFire Core family addresses these challenges by providing an industry-leading solution at a competitive price.”
The PolarFire Core family is compatible with Microchip’s Libero® SoC Design Suite, SmartHLS™ Compiler, VectorBlox™ Accelerator SDK, and Mi-V Ecosystem for RISC-V application development. It also integrates with existing PolarFire FPGA and SoC development boards to enable rapid product validation.
