Radiation-resistant DC-DC power converters for space missions launched
Global semiconductor company Microchip Technology has accelerated the expansion of its power portfolio for space applications.
Microchip announced on the 27th that it has released a new radiation-hardened 15W DC-DC power converter, 'SA15-28' and a compatible EMI filter, 'SF100-28'.
With this new product, Microchip provides a power management solution that delivers reliability, performance and flexibility in harsh space environments.
In particular, the SA15-28 DC-DC converter is a high-durability product that complies with the MIL-STD-461 standard and has a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and radiation resistance of up to 100 krad.
It is compatible with existing systems using 28V satellite buses, enabling a stable power supply for complex space missions.
Based on a compact and lightweight design, the SA15-28 is designed to weigh 60 grams and have a volume of approximately 1.68 cubic inches, meeting SWaP (Size, Weight and Power) requirements.
It supports a triple output structure (including 5V) optimized for FPGAs and microprocessors (MPUs), and allows for user-customized configurations for various output combinations.
Leon Gross, vice president of Microchip, said:“This product is a COTS-based, non-hybrid discrete design that maximizes flexibility and speeds up product development,” the company said. “We will support our space customers to quickly implement solutions tailored to their project requirements.”
The included SF100-28 EMI filter supports up to 100W output power and is also compatible with the existing SA50 series and SF200 filters.
This allows customers to take a modular approach to various system designs and improve development efficiency through integrated operation with existing product lines.
Microchip also provides a variety of development support tools to help power system designers perform design verification based on professional test reports, including reliability analysis and electrical stress evaluation, using the SA15-28 power converter.
Products are available now through global authorized distributors and Microchip authorized channels, with scalable packaging options available from COTS to space-qualified grade.
