Applying HCA standards, leading the establishment of standards for representative chairman participation

Samsung Electronics' integrated connectivity platform, SmartThings, allows control of home appliances from 13 brands around the world with a single app.

Samsung Electronics will participate in the HCA (Home Connectivity Alliance) demonstration held at 'IFA 2022', Europe's largest home appliance exhibition held in Berlin, Germany from September 2nd to 6th, and introduce the experience of connecting with third-party devices through SmartThings.

HCA was established in August of last year with the aim of expanding the smart home ecosystem, and 13 global home appliance companies, including Samsung Electronics, GE, Haier, Electrolux, LG Electronics, Arcelik, and Trayn, are participating.

Samsung Electronics is a founding member and, as its sole representative chairman, is leading discussions on interconnectivity between home appliances.

During this IFA period, we will hold demonstrations with HCA member companies, and will demonstrate controlling Samsung Electronics' Bespoke refrigerator, Bespoke Jet Bot AI, Bespoke Cube Air, Neo QLED, and other third-party appliances with a single SmartThings app that applies the HCA standard.

When the HCA standard is applied to the SmartThings app, it will be able to control home appliances from 13 HCA member companies, including Samsung Electronics, allowing consumers to enjoy a richer and more convenient smart home experience.

Samsung Electronics plans to update SmartThings to implement the HCA standard in the first half of 2023.In addition, models of existing home appliances from member companies equipped with Wi-Fi can be controlled regardless of brand with a single app once each company completes linkage preparations.

As a result, starting in the first half of next year, you will be able to control 15 product groups, including refrigerators and washing machines from 13 member companies, including Samsung Electronics, and over 40 functions using the SmartThings app. Conversely, you will also be able to control various Samsung Electronics products using the smart home apps from 13 brands.

Samsung Electronics' SmartThings boasts openness, currently supporting connection with over 300 partner devices. Adding products from 12 home appliance brands based on the HCA standard will allow for an even more differentiated smart home environment.

Park Chan-woo, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Home Appliances Business Division, said, “Since the launch of HCA, there has been close cooperation between home appliance manufacturers for smart homes,” and “Through SmartThings, an integrated home appliance solution, we will continue to strive to expand connectivity not only with our own devices but also with devices from other companies.”
