DJI Dock Leads the Transformation of Construction Surveying

Hyundai Engineering & Construction's Namyangju Wangsuk Relocation Project Streamlines Data Collection and Analysis with Drones

DJI, a global leader in drone and camera technology, is revolutionizing the way construction site surveying and project management are conducted.

According to a recent case study published by DJI, the DJI Dock and 3D modeling technology were used in Hyundai Engineering & Construction's Namyangju Wangsuk relocation project to reduce surveying, data collection, and analysis time, and efficiently perform construction site prioritization, schedule management, and subcontracting instructions through real-time monitoring.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction's Namyangju Wangsuk relocation project is a large-scale civil engineering project that will introduce a double underground road system for the first time in Korea. It will construct an upper underground roadway and lower tunnel over a total length of 6.4 km, with a total project cost of approximately 1 trillion won.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction introduced DJI Dock, a drone-in-a-box solution from DJI Enterprise.

Previously, drone operation required dedicated personnel for charging, transportation, flight, and data storage, but with the integration of the DJI Dock into the workflow, automated flight and real-time monitoring became possible.

Operators can now remotely plan missions, schedule flights, and directly control docked drones when needed, all from the field via the DJI Dock.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction is, automating the process from charging to flight, and streamlining data collection and analysis into a unified platform.

As a result, the team was able to obtain precise field data every two weeks, enabling them to efficiently prioritize, manage schedules, and issue subcontracting instructions.

Another innovation in this project is the transition from 2D CAD-based quantity takeoff to 3D model-based verification.

Measurements collected by drones are immediately reflected in volume calculations, and accuracy is ensured through cross-validation with 2D design drawings.

Multiple design layers are overlaid on field conditions, enabling efficient access to the information needed in each field and streamlining progress reporting.

Teams can now overlay official design drawings instead of manually marking up photos, allowing them to precisely compare planned and actual conditions.

This allows for reliable quantity estimation, weekly and monthly progress tracking, and design intent verification.

DJI Dock-based automated monitoring covers the entire 6.4km area, including difficult-to-access areas, increasing efficiency and reducing manual labor. Hyundai Engineering & Construction expects this system to rapidly expand across the industry.
