Detects abnormal signs during call and notifies guardians, up to 10 people
SK Telecom has introduced a feature that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect suspected voice phishing calls and immediately notify guardians, such as family members.
SK Telecom announced on the 27th that it has added a 'Family Care' feature to its AI-based 'A.Dot Phone' that sends notifications to registered guardians when a suspected voice phishing call is detected.
This feature operates by sending a text message or app notification to a pre-registered guardian when the AI detects suspicious voice phishing activity during a call. Guardians can receive notifications regardless of whether they have the A.t Phone app installed or their mobile carrier; app users receive guidance via push notifications and text messages, while those who have not installed the app receive it via text message.
According to the National Police Agency, the number of voice phishing crimes in the first quarter of 2025 was 5,878, a 17% increase compared to the same period last year. The average loss per case rose by 188% to 53.01 million won.
Users can register up to 10 guardians and add them by selecting them from their contact list. They can include not only family but also acquaintances. On Android devices, notifications are sent to guardians even when emergency numbers such as 112 or 119 are called. To use the feature, consent to the provision of personal information to third parties and activation of the AI voice phishing detection function are required.
A.dot Phone provides response functions for the pre-call, during-call, and post-call stages. Before a call, it blocked approximately 35.62 million voice phishing and spam calls in the first quarter of this year using an AI-based blocking function, and provided warning alerts for approximately 3.47 million calls during the call reception stage.
The service has been in operation since the introduction of the AI voice phishing detection function last November, and since March of this year, the detection method has been improved by utilizing voiceprint data.
