Samsung Electronics is enhancing the security system of its Galaxy devices to proactively prevent threats such as malicious apps, messages, and mobile financial fraud like voice phishing. The company explains that it is expanding security capabilities from a focus on protecting personal information to a method that detects and blocks threats in advance.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 17th that it has been strengthening security features, including phishing app risk alerts, security policy updates, call screening, malicious message blocking, and alerts for suspected voice phishing calls.
In particular, starting with 'One UI 9.0' to be installed in new products in the second half of this year, the 'phishing app risk alert' has been enhanced to go beyond blocking installation and block execution if an already installed app is identified as malicious.
Periodic 'security policy updates' are also conducted based on cooperation data with government agencies.
'Phishing App Risk Alert' is a feature that blocks apps at the installation stage by receiving a list of apps intended for fraud in cooperation with the National Police Agency, and has been applied to devices running One UI 6.1 or higher since 2024.
In One UI 9.0, at the time of app installation, reputation data from the Galaxy Store is checked to determine whether there is suspicion of phishing, and if confirmed to be malicious, execution is blocked immediately. Apps installed within hours of a suspected voice phishing call or installed via remote control prompt for deletion through a warning notification upon execution.
'Malicious message blocking' was developed in collaboration with the Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
Samsung Electronics stated that it blocks based on caller ID, dangerous links, and spam keywords, and has blocked a cumulative total of approximately 400 million instances from its introduction in September 2024 until April of this year.
Starting with the Galaxy S25 series, a deep learning-based feature has been applied that automatically classifies illegal gambling, loans, smishing, etc., by having AI learn from an average of about 500,000 pieces of data received from KISA per month.
The company explained that 'Call Screening,' introduced with the Galaxy S26 series, is a feature where Galaxy AI answers incoming calls to summarize caller information and content, with the entire process handled on-device.
In addition, the 'Voice Phishing Suspicion Call Alert' available on One UI 8.0 or higher uses AI to analyze the risk level in real time during a call and provides guidance in 'Suspicious' and 'Warning' stages, and with the default enabled state, the usage rate was recorded at approximately 84% as of April 2026.
According to statistics from the National Police Agency, domestic voice phishing damages in 2025 will reach 23,360 cases and 1.2578 trillion won.
