Qorvo Launches Front-end Module for X-Band Radar… Transmit-Receive Integration and Enhanced Efficiency

Qorvo has unveiled a front-end module designed to enhance the performance of X-band radar systems. Featuring a structure that integrates transmit and receive functions into a single unit, it aims to improve power efficiency and detection performance.


Qorvo announced on the 23rd that it has released an X-band radar front-end solution for phased array and multi-functional sensors.

The product unveiled this time (QPF5012) is a transceiver integrated module that operates in the 8.5GHz to 10.5GHz band. It provides a maximum transmission output of 10W and is characterized by implementing radar front-end functions on a single chip.

Key performance features include a power addition efficiency (PAE) of 42%, a noise figure of 2.1dB, and a package size of 7mm × 5mm.

This design can be utilized to increase reception sensitivity and improve detection range while reducing power consumption and heat generation.

The module features a structure that reduces the number of components and simplifies system design, and is designed to maintain constant output and efficiency even in environments with varying antenna loads.

In particular, it was developed to support the implementation of stable performance required in Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar systems.

X-band radar is a frequency band primarily used for high-resolution detection and tracking in the defense and aerospace sectors.

Qorvo stated that this solution can be utilized in radar equipment where size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints are critical.
