Increased Proportion of CPU and GPU Technology-Based Systems in TOP500 and Green500 Rankings
AMD is expanding its influence in the global supercomputing market as its technologies are being applied to numerous major supercomputers featuring the world's highest performance and energy efficiency.
AMD announced on the 24th, based on the latest TOP500 and Green500 rankings, that its technology has been applied to four of the world's top 10 supercomputers.
AMD technology has been applied to a total of 191 supercomputing systems, an increase from the previous year. In particular, it was found that more than 40% of the new systems entering the market this year were built on AMD.
The top ranks of the TOP500 included AMD-based systems such as El Capitan, Frontier, and HPC7.
These systems are equipped with AMD EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs to support high-performance computing.
In the Green500 rankings as well, four AMD-based systems were included in the top 10.
The company explained that the system provides high computational performance and energy efficiency simultaneously.
In addition, it was found that more than half of the top 50 systems utilize AMD technology.
AMD is emphasizing the integrated performance of CPUs and GPUs to meet the growing demand for AI and high-performance computing (HPC).
Recently, as AI model training and scientific simulations are combined, the role of HPC infrastructure is expanding, and high-precision computing (FP64) is still considered an important factor.
AMD stated that it is advancing its technology to simultaneously support high-performance AI and scientific computing through next-generation GPUs.
In addition, cooperation is expanding in the European region to build 'Sovereign AI' infrastructure that combines AI and HPC.
AMD explained that it plans to strengthen its technological foundation in the supercomputing and AI markets amidst these trends.
