Acquired FCC, PTCRB, ISED, and Anatel certifications; partnering with Onomondo to target the North American IoT market
STMicroelectronics (ST) has expanded the global certification coverage of its NB-IoT module ST87M01 to North America and Brazil. With the completion of this certification, the commercial application of the ST87M01 module, which features 5G-ready cellular connectivity and positioning capabilities, has become possible in IoT projects in the region.
ST announced on the 1st that its ST87M01 NB-IoT module has obtained FCC, PTCRB, and ISED certifications for the US and Canadian markets, as well as certification from Anatel, Brazil's national telecommunications regulatory authority.
This module supports NB-IoT Release 15-based cellular communication and provides GNSS and Wi-Fi positioning functions as options.
The models released in the North American region are the ST87M01-2001, which supports NB-IoT connectivity, and the ST87M01-2301, which supports NB-IoT, GNSS, and Wi-Fi positioning.
ST explained that it is supplying a package combining authentication modules and communication infrastructure to the market in cooperation with global IoT network operator Onomondo.
Domenico Arrigo, Head of Product by Application at ST, said, “Through our collaboration with Onomondo, customers can leverage a proven global connectivity platform to deploy, manage, and scale applications faster and more reliably across North America.”
The certified models for Brazil are ST87M01-1000, ST87M01-1100, and ST87M01-1101, each configured with different NB-IoT connectivity and positioning functions.
ST stated that it is responding to local IoT demand, including smart meters, smart streetlights, agricultural monitoring sensors, and asset tracking.
All ST87M01 modules are less than 0.5µA in standby mode and less than 1.2µA in Power Saving Mode (PSM).It achieves low power consumption and is provided in a small package of 10.6mm × 12.8mm and a height of 2.4mm.
ST stated that it ensures stability in terms of production, supply chain, and security by directly handling design, manufacturing, and support.
Resources for developers include the ST87M01 firmware, the Easy Connect software library, and Windows-based graphic configuration tools.
