With the shortage of skilled personnel in exporting mid-sized and small businesses becoming more prominent due to tightening global technical regulations, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is fully launching a practical training system. The plan is to enhance the regulatory response capabilities of domestic export companies by operating step-by-step programs ranging from basic online courses to advanced strategic courses.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS, Director General Kim Dae-ja) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 1st that it will provide field-oriented training courses on responding to technical regulations for working-level employees of approximately 100,000 export companies nationwide.

Trainees can learn about the procedures for obtaining overseas certifications, trends in technical regulations in major countries, government support programs, and response cases through the Overseas Certification Technology Regulation Information Portal (www.knowtbt.kr) and the Talent Development Platform (www.learning.go.kr).

Starting in July, specialized training focused on fields requiring urgent response will begin.

High-risk AI systems, battery product passports, and restrictions on chemicals in packaging materials were organized as major educational topics.

We also plan to run a separate course for startup founders preparing to expand overseas.

Companies that have completed the relevant training will be given bonus points during the evaluation for selection as recipients of export voucher support.

The Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Advanced Course will be conducted under the auspices of Yonsei University starting in August.

The program is structured to share changes in the global regulatory environment and corporate response cases, and to carry out team projects; the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award will be presented to the outstanding teams.

The derived results are expected to be used as data for future policy formulation.
