A Comprehensive Overview of Next-Generation Quantum Cryptography Technologies and Solutions for AI and 6G Security Response
With threats to existing encryption systems growing due to the advancement of AI and quantum computer performance, SK Telecom unveiled its comprehensive next-generation quantum cryptography technology in one place. It presented a quantum security portfolio tailored to the AI and 6G environments, ranging from optical integrated circuit-based miniaturization technology to wireless and satellite segment expansion and hybrid security chips.
SK Telecom announced on the 2nd that it participated in 'Quantum Korea 2026,' held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) from the 2nd to the 4th, and unveiled next-generation quantum cryptography technology and solutions.
Quantum Korea is a quantum industry exhibition hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT, and has been held annually since 2023.
The next-generation technologies showcased by SKT at this exhibition are Optical Integrated Circuit (PIC)-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), PIC-based Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG), and wireless and satellite QKD.
SKT has implemented a 10Gbps-class high-performance QRNG on an ultra-small chip measuring 10×10mm², and is also developing an integrated QKD chip that integrates the transmitter, receiver, and QRNG optical system.
The PIC-based approach is expected to contribute to the widespread adoption of the technology by enabling miniaturization, cost reduction, and mass production.
Wireless QKD aims to be applied to long-distance communication of 30km, and plans to expand to satellite deployment in the future.
Quantum security solutions unveiled include Q-HSM (Quantum Hardware Security Module) and Q-SSE (Quantum Security Service Edge).
Q-HSM is a hybrid one-chip that combines QRNG, quantum-resistant cryptography (PQC), modern cryptographic technology, and PUF (Physical Unclonable Function), and is applied to the security of edge devices such as drones, AI CCTVs, and robots on 6G networks.
Q-SSE is a solution that supports zero-trust access control and LLM service security based on QRNG and PQC.>
SKT plans to identify demand for quantum cryptography in the defense and public sectors and incorporate it into the development of new technologies, and also continue cooperation with the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and the Agency for Defense Development.
Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony, Ryu Tak-ki, SKT’s Network Technology Manager, received the Award for Meritorious Service in the Development of Quantum Science and Technology (Minister of Science and ICT Award).
“We will demonstrate how SKT’s next-generation quantum cryptography technology can contribute to meeting security demands in the AI and 6G era,” said Ryu Tak-ki, adding, “We will continue to strive for the advancement and commercialization of quantum technology.”
