Edward and CSK to invest $110 million in building a semiconductor and display equipment factory in South Chungcheong Province.

Chungnam Provincial Government announced on the 7th that it signed an investment agreement (MOU) with Chungnam Governor Yang Seung-jo, UK Edwards CEO Kate Wilson, CSK and Edwards Korea integrated CEO Yoon Jae-hong, and Asan City Mayor Oh Se-hyun in the provincial government conference room.

Representative Yoon and others attended the wiretapping investment agreement ceremony in person, while Representative Wilson, who was unable to enter the country due to COVID-19, participated online from the UK.

According to the MOU, Edward and CSK will build an integrated system production plant for vacuum pumps and gas treatment devices for semiconductor and display processes on a 57,810㎡ site in the Asan Tangjeong General Industrial Complex.

To this end, the two companies will invest a total of $110 million over the next five years.

The two companies, Edwards and CSK, are affiliates of the Swedish Atlas Copco Group, with 100% and 56% stakes respectively. Have it.

Founded in 1873, Atlas Copco is a world leader in industrial equipment, with 40,000 employees and sales of KRW 13.5298 trillion as of last year.

Founded in 1919, Edwards is headquartered in Burgess Hill, England and is the world's leading manufacturer of semiconductor vacuum pumps.

The company decided to establish its global production base for vacuum pumps in Korea in 2011 and has invested 116 billion won in Cheonan over the past 10 years.

The current number of employees is 1,056.

CSK, which has its headquarters and factory in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and produces gas treatment equipment for semiconductor and display processes, is a Korean joint venture acquired by Atlas Copco in 2017.

CSK ranks first in domestic gas treatment equipment market share and third in the world in sales.

Chungnam Province expects that if Edward and CSK invest as planned and operate normally, there will be sales growth of 658.1 billion won, export effects of 337.6 billion won, and creation of 270 new jobs over the next five years.

At the signing ceremony that day, Governor Yang Seung-jo said, “Edward and CSK’s investment in South Chungcheong Province will be a great help in strengthening the competitiveness of the semiconductor and display industries in Korea, and will serve as another opportunity to further solidify the position of ‘South Chungcheong Province as the Mecca of Semiconductors and Displays. ’ We will actively support the development of both companies.”

Meanwhile, Asan City and Do are pushing forward with the designation of the Asan Tangjeong General Industrial Complex, where the two companies are located, as a complex-type foreign investment zone within the year through consultation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
