Anseong storage facility expansion, supply chain expansion

Korea Fire Protection Chemicals (KSC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Showa Denko KK (SDK), has expanded its global semiconductor materials supply chain by increasing production of semiconductor special gases.

Showa Denko announced on the 5th that it is currently carrying out construction work to expand the site of its special gas storage facility in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.

Showa Denko said that through this expansion, it will respond to global public document issues and strengthen the stability of the supply of special gases for semiconductor production.

The expansion roughly doubles the size of the storage facility, which was established in 2007, and includes rebuilding an office building to expand storage capacity and bolstering the company's customer support systems.

Showa Denko operates a business in Korea that processes high-purity gases for semiconductor production, and supplies more than 20 types of high-purity gases.

Showa Denko imports high-purity gas from gas production bases in Japan and other Asian countries, sells it in Korea, and exports high-purity gas produced in Korea to Asia and the United States.

We also operate an integrated supply system for high purity gases, including cylinder filling, transportation and distribution, used cylinder collection, product quality analysis and assurance.

A Showa Denko official said, “Many countries around the world are interested in the semiconductor industry. Although investment is rapidly increasing, the Korean government is providing strong support to the Korean semiconductor industry, and the Korean semiconductor market continues to expand,” he said. “High-purity gases for semiconductor production are used in the circuit wiring process (front-end process) on the surface of semiconductor wafers, and the amount of high-purity gases used in semiconductor production is rapidly increasing due to the miniaturization of semiconductor integrated circuits and progress in three-dimensional design, and the amount is increasing at a higher growth rate than the semiconductor wafer market.”

He also noted that “Showa Denko Group holds a leading share in the global etching gas market, and sales figures for the group’s business of producing and selling high-purity gases for semiconductor production are achieving growth of more than 10% annually.”
