7.05 million won delivered, raised through employee donations and company matching grants

As corporate social responsibility activities evolve beyond simple donations into a core element of sustainable management that fosters growth alongside the local community, Merck Korea's Pyeongtaek Site has launched a scholarship program for underprivileged children and adolescents. Merck Korea has been expanding its community co-prosperity activities by continuing scholarship programs and living support initiatives in cooperation with local welfare organizations since 2017.

Merck Korea's Pyeongtaek site delivered 'Hope Scholarships' to Good Neighbors Gyeonggi South Business Headquarters on the 8th to support underprivileged children and youth.

This sponsorship fund was raised through a matching grant method in which the company provides an equal amount to the donations collected by employees, totaling 7.05 million won.

The scholarship is intended to be used to support elementary and middle school students in the Pyeongtaek region who are struggling with their studies due to economic hardship.

Merck Korea's Pyeongtaek site has been conducting support activities for children in crisis families in cooperation with Good Neighbors' Southern Gyeonggi Business Headquarters since 2017.

Last year, in addition to delivering hope scholarships, activities included providing hygiene kits for female adolescents, winter clothing for Koryo-jin and children and adolescents with immigrant backgrounds, and holding year-end events. Based on these activities, he was listed in 'The Neighbors Club,' a special membership group of Good Neighbors.

Kim Woo-kyu, CEO of Merck Korea, stated that the company is practicing sustainable management by carrying out various social contribution activities not only at the Pyeongtaek site but also in the Anseong and Ansan regions. He also conveyed the company's commitment to continuing volunteer work for local communities and spreading a culture of sharing.

Jeon Jae-gyu, Head of Good Neighbors Gyeonggi South Business Headquarters, expressed gratitude to Merck Korea for supporting local children for a long time and said that they would continue to provide support so that children from vulnerable backgrounds can grow up despite economic difficulties.

Merck Korea currently operates 12 business sites in Korea and employs over 1,900 staff members. The company operates businesses in the fields of electronic materials, healthcare, and life sciences, and continuously conducts employee-led volunteer activities. In 2020, it donated 25,000 euros to support digital and Korean language education at the Ansan Multicultural Children's Center.
