Recognition of research achievements in nanoparticle synthesis and new materials
President Choi Chul-jin of the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) received the 'Lee Hsun Award,' a world-renowned materials science academic award.
The Li Shun Prize is a prestigious international academic award hosted by the Institute of Metallurgy (IMR), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is awarded to scholars who have made outstanding research achievements in the field of materials science and engineering worldwide.
This award from President Choi is a meaningful achievement that externally recognizes that the technological capabilities of the Korea Institute of Materials Science have reached a global level.
President Choi Chul-jin took office as the president of the Korea Institute of Materials Science in April 2024, and his main research area is the development of nanopowder and new permanent magnet manufacturing processes.
He was selected as the best project in the machinery and materials field in the 2020 National Research and Development Excellence 100, and was recognized for his outstanding achievements as a researcher by receiving the following awards: △2024 Science and Technology Promotion Medal (Progressive Award), △2016 Prime Minister's Award, and △2014 Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Award.
In his award-winning lecture, President Choi introduced nanoparticle manufacturing technology that opens up innovation in mass production of high-purity nanoparticles and diverse industrial applications, and announced achievements in the development of new compositions and processes for new magnetic materials that can replace rare earth permanent magnets.
President Choi Cheol-jin said, “This award is a valuable result of the research capabilities and dedication accumulated with members of the Korea Institute of Materials Science.”“We will continue to conduct research based on our world-class technological prowess to solve science and technology challenges for humanity and make practical contributions to industry and society,” he said.
