The goal is to secure the source technology for energy self-sufficiency in buildings.

The Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) and Korea Southern Power Co. have signed a business agreement for the development of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology, bringing them one step closer to realizing carbon-neutral buildings.

On the 28th, the Korea Materials Research Institute signed a business agreement with Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. at the Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. headquarters in Busan for the development of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will pursue joint research and technology development with the goal of securing core technologies for energy self-sufficiency in buildings.

BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaics) is a technology that installs solar power generation systems by integrating them with the exterior materials of a building.

That is, solar modules are integrated into the roof, exterior walls, and windows of a building to simultaneously perform the functions of power generation and building materials. This is attracting attention as a key technology that contributes to the realization of a carbon-neutral society and maximizing energy efficiency.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will establish a foundation for securing BIPV source technologies, including △ conducting joint research for the development of basic materials and structures, △ establishing a foundation for process and reliability verification, △ discovering joint R&D tasks and responding to government projects, and △ promoting commercialization of research results, and will continue to cooperate.

KIMS President Choi Chul-jin said, “As a materials-based research institute, we will focus on securing core BIPV materials and reliability technology,” and “Through this agreement, we will contribute to the development of national eco-friendly energy.”
