Leading a Sustainable Future with Data Center Cooling Technology

Johnson Controls International, a global leader in smart and sustainable building solutions, has been recognized for its leadership in leading the way toward a sustainable future with its data center cooling technology.

Johnson Controls announced on the 30th that it had been selected for the list of 'Change the World 2025' published by the American business magazine Fortune.

This is the third time Johnson Controls has been named to the list, with technological innovation in data center cooling a key factor this year.

In particular, the YORK YVAM air-cooled magnetic bearing chiller for hyperscale and AI-intensive data centers attracted attention.

This product reduces annual energy consumption by up to 40% while maintaining existing cooling performance, improves water resource efficiency by not using water, and minimizes impact on the community with low noise level of 65 dBA.

“As AI transforms society, addressing data center energy consumption and carbon emissions presents both a significant challenge and an opportunity,” said Joachim Weidemanis, CEO of Johnson Controls. “Improving cooling efficiency will enable us to secure power for AI workloads, which will be a key driver in accelerating the transition to an AI-based society.”

Data centers are the stable operation of high-performance chips.Cooling systems are essential for the industry and account for more than 30% of total energy consumption.

Accordingly, Johnson Controls is focusing on developing technologies to save energy and minimize water use, while also pursuing noise reduction strategies.

Johnson Controls established the JADEC (Advanced Development Engineering Center) to continuously innovate thermal management solutions and, through its global data center solutions organization, provides scalable and consistent technologies to customers worldwide.

Previously, Johnson Controls achieved a 50% reduction in operating costs and a 60% reduction in carbon emissions with heat pump technology by 2023, and in 2022, it was named a Fortune “World Changing Companies” for transforming buildings into flexible assets through its OpenBlue smart building platform.
