Introduction of high-performance computing (HPC-AI) common infrastructure
Data Center Expert, Integrated Management of the Entire Infrastructure
Competition to build HPC-based AI computing infrastructure is intensifying worldwide, and building large-scale infrastructure is becoming essential. Accordingly, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) has adopted Schneider's edge data center to support efficient operation of a supercomputing center.
Schneider Electric Korea announced that it has introduced an edge data center to the public infrastructure based on high-performance computing (HPC-AI) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST).
The GIST HPC-AI shared infrastructure is the first domestic university to introduce NVIDIA's latest DGX-A100 GPU system for computing cluster operation.
The company said that the purpose of applying Schneider’s solution this time is to “address operational efficiency, power stability, and scalability of public infrastructure.”
Schneider Electric's edge data center solution includes hardware and software, and the company said it collaborated with data center specialist Deus Systems to configure and execute the project for the solution products.
Schneider Electric has installed the supercomputing center rack infrastructure and power distribution units (PDUs). Easy Rack PDUs stably supply high load power and provide monitoring functions in various environments such as edge infrastructure and high-density data centers based on standard rack mount specifications.
In addition, in terms of software, 'Data Center Expert' is applied to integrate and manage the entire infrastructure. Since the power distribution device is always connected to the network, various information such as power usage are collected at the edge stage.
Although GIST has its own control system within the supercomputing center, it additionally utilized data center experts for stability. Information collected through EcoStruxure IT Expert helps to organically link with apps, analysis tools, and services.
GIST AI Graduate School Dean Kim Jong-won said, “The supercomputing center is planning to accommodate more capacity than it does now. We expect that power consumption will increase as more GPUs are installed,” and “In order to operate the supercomputing center efficiently, it is important to monitor the power consumption of each product and manage it efficiently. We expect to continue to develop by introducing Schneider Electric’s solutions in the future to integrate the infrastructure system and manage it efficiently.”
“HPC, which provides powerful computational capabilities, is becoming increasingly important worldwide,” said Dong-Hoon Choi, Manager of the Data Center Business Team at Schneider Electric Korea’s IT Business Division. “Schneider Electric will strive to build more advanced data centers by combining its capabilities and know-how.”
