Samsung Electronics to Participate in CES 2020 with 9 Domestic Startups

Samsung Electronics announced on the 29th that it will participate in the consumer electronics show 'CES 2020' held in Las Vegas, USA from January 7th to 10th, 2020, together with nine domestic startups.

Samsung Electronics is revealing for the first time five outstanding projects from its in-house venture incubation program, ‘C-Lab Inside’, and supporting the exhibition participation of four startups from its external startup incubation program, ‘C-Lab Outside’.

Samsung Electronics plans to set up a C-Lab pavilion in Eureka Park, Hall G on the first floor of Sands Expo in Las Vegas, and introduce its products and services to visitors.

This is the first time that startups supported through the C-Lab Outside program are participating in CES together. Startups will exhibit their products alongside C-Lab Inside in the C-Lab Hall prepared by Samsung Electronics.


C-Lab Inside, an in-house venture program, unveils 5 projects
C-Lab Inside is an in-house venture program that Samsung Electronics introduced in 2012, and has participated in CES for five consecutive years since its first participation in 2016. The C-Lab Inside projects being unveiled for the first time at CES 2020 are products and services for a convenient and healthy daily life.

The five tasks are ▲'Selfie Type', a virtual keyboard solution that utilizes the front cameras of smartphones and tablets; ▲'Hyler', a smart highlighter that scraps, searches, and digitally manages underlined text on paper; ▲'Becon', a scalp care and hair loss prevention home care solution; ▲'SunnySide', a window-type light that generates artificial sunlight; and ▲'UltraV', a sensor and service that monitors and manages the effects of ultraviolet rays.

Samsung Electronics plans to showcase its C-Lab projects at Eureka Park, where leading startups from around the world gather, to check competitiveness and market response in advance and use it for project development.


Support for 4 externally nurtured startups C-Lab Outside
C-Lab Outside is a startup incubation program launched in October of last year to expand the operational know-how of C-Lab Inside externally and contribute to the revitalization of the domestic startup ecosystem.

Samsung Electronics provides support to startups selected for C-Lab Outside, including exploring business cooperation plans, providing business grants, attracting investment, and opportunities to participate in global IT exhibitions such as CES, MWC, and IFA.

This year's CES 2020 will feature three startups that received support over the past year and graduated from 'C-Lab Outside' in November, as well as one startup currently being nurtured.

The four startups are ▲ 'Circulus', which makes companion robots using interactive technology, and ▲ 'Pi', which provides ICT services based on healthcare data.FITT' ▲'Vtouch', which develops technology to control objects with gestures via a camera ▲'Smoothy', which supports a multi-party video call service that supports video, voice, and text chatting simultaneously.

C-Lab Outside's excellent startups plan to meet investors, buyers, and distributors from around the world through CES 2020 to explore business opportunities.

Samsung Electronics Creative Development Center Director Han In-guk said, “We will continue to exhibit C-Lab’s excellent projects at various global exhibitions and support startups to participate in overseas exhibitions so that they can create products that reflect market trends and customer voices.”

Samsung Electronics announced that it will foster a total of 500 internal and external startup projects, including fostering 300 external startups through C-Lab Outside and supporting 200 C-Lab Inside over the next five years starting in 2018.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is introducing a C-Lab spin-off system to support C-Lab Inside projects to become independent startups. Eight startups from C-Lab Inside, including Linkflow, Welt, Linkface, Lululab, Morphic, Monit, Analog Plus, and Loople, will participate independently at CES 2020. Among them, Linkface, Welt, Lululab, and Linkflow won CES Innovation Awards.

Through the C-Lab Spinoff system implemented since 2015, 145 employees have challenged themselves with startups and founded 40 companies.
