Strengthening competitiveness of manufacturing equipment such as roll-to-roll and laser/robot fields

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (hereinafter referred to as KIMM) and the LG Electronics Production Technology Institute (hereinafter referred to as LG Production Technology Institute) have joined hands to advance equipment technology.

On October 28, the Korea Machinery & Materials Institute signed an MOU for 'Cooperation in Development of Core Materials, Parts, and Equipment Technologies' at the LG Production Technology Institute in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, with the attendance of Director Hong Soon-guk of the LG Production Technology Institute and other relevant officials.

The signing ceremony that day served as a venue for practical exchanges, including reviewing areas of research cooperation and discussing specific future cooperation plans. Prior to this, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials and LG Production Technology Institute held a technology exchange meeting in June and began exploring cooperative technologies.

In the future, the two organizations plan to pursue research cooperation in the roll-to-roll field, where the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials has accumulated research capabilities, and in the robotics and laser fields, which the LG Production Technology Institute is currently researching and developing.

To this end, we decided to hold regular technical exchange meetings twice a year to derive joint tasks and join forces to promote international standardization based on research results.

Hong Soon-guk, president of LG Electronics Production Technology Institute, said, “Based on the production technology know-how we have accumulated so far, we will contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic manufacturing industry together with government-funded research institutes.”

Park Sang-jin, president of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, said, “We expect that the combination of the research capabilities of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials in the manufacturing equipment field and companies with abundant production site experience will be a great opportunity to increase the competitiveness of domestic manufacturing equipment technology.”
