The National Information Society Agency (NIA) supports verification of 5G specialized network convergence services.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) announced on the 8th that it has established a '5G Specialized Network Test Bed' in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and ICT to verify various 5G specialized network convergence services and products in an environment similar to a commercial network.
KT MOS was selected as the basic telecommunications operator, and was allocated dedicated network frequencies (4.7 GHz, 28 GHz bands) to four 5G convergence service test beds built by KT (Pangyo, Daejeon, Gwangju, and Daegu).
NIA has additionally built a dedicated 5G specialized network testing environment where specialized network-related equipment development verification, pre-verification (PoC), and research results testing and verification can be conducted.
In addition, by constructing 5G specialized network cores and access systems (IRU, ORU, etc.) for each of the four bases, we implemented a field (indoor/outdoor) test zone that guarantees ultra-low latency and data processing performance to enable testing and verification of specialized network equipment and terminals in a shielded room, as well as verification of various specialized network convergence services such as drones, autonomous driving, robots, AR/VR, etc.
The 5G specialized network test bed is for companies related to ICT convergence services (AI, big data, robot automation,Anyone who is a demand organization that requires research and development, testing and verification, and commercialization utilizing the 5G specialized network, such as companies related to 5G specialized networks, specialized research institutes, and other businesses (e.g., deep air mobility (UAM), drones, etc.) can apply and use it.
This is part of the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Network Slicing-based 5G Convergence Service Testbed Construction and Operation Project', and is significant in that it provides a testing environment that can promote product commercialization by building a testbed capable of verifying technologies related to 5G specialized networks in the future.
In 2024, NIA plans to expand support for 5G specialized network technology development by operating a dedicated 5G specialized network test and verification support system to provide performance, stability, and interoperability testing services for prototype development and services.
NIA Director Hwang Jong-seong said, “Interest in and demand for the introduction of 5G specialized networks is increasing as public and private organizations and ICT companies hoping to utilize 5G specialized networks build customized communication networks and enable innovative digital service transitions.” He added, “Accordingly, NIA will work harder to vitalize the 5G industrial ecosystem by continuously supporting technology development and product commercialization for related companies and organizations based on the 5G specialized network test bed so that the introduction of 5G specialized networks can spread.”
