The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) held a ‘Clean Hydrogen Certification System Briefing Session’ at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Seoul on the 29th to help companies understand the ‘Clean Hydrogen Certification System’ and support smooth use of the certification service.
At the briefing session, the Korea Energy Economics Institute, the clean hydrogen certification operation agency, explained the certification system operation plan and how to participate in the 2024 pilot project, while KTR (Korea Testing & Research Institute for Chemical Industry) and KTC (Korea Testing & Research Institute for Electrical and Electronics Testing) introduced the details of the on-site facility and data review and the specific certification test evaluation procedures.
Professor Song Han-ho of Seoul National University's Department of Mechanical Engineering, who also participated in the development of the design technology for the Korean-style clean hydrogen certification system, explained the emission calculation method and calculation program for the clean hydrogen certification system that will be applied from this year's pilot project.
After the presentation, a separate Q&A session will be held to address any questions that companies may have that were not addressed during the presentation.Supplementary explanations were provided for .
Prior to the briefing session, a business agreement signing ceremony was held between the certification agencies.
The certification operation agency (Korea Energy Economics Institute) and two certification test evaluation agencies (KTR, KTC), which were designated as ‘clean hydrogen certification agencies’ at the end of last year, agreed to closely cooperate with each other to ensure that companies do not experience any inconveniences related to certification services, and also to work together to suggest policies and discover new businesses for the development of the clean hydrogen ecosystem.
Lee Ho-hyun, Director of the Energy Policy Office, said, “With the presentation of clean hydrogen standards, we expect that large-scale clean hydrogen investments by companies will be promoted, accelerating the creation of a domestic clean hydrogen ecosystem,” adding, “We will steadily implement the hydrogen economy this year, including implementing a clean hydrogen certification system, opening a clean hydrogen power generation bidding market, strengthening bilateral and multilateral hydrogen cooperation, and establishing global-level hydrogen regulations and safety standards.”
Meanwhile, during the briefing session that day, information was also provided on recruiting companies to participate in this year's pilot project.
The business announcement can be found on the Korea Energy Economics Institute website, and companies wishing to participate in the business should submit an application to the Korea Energy Economics Institute by Wednesday, March 13.
