Expected to resolve difficulties in calculating carbon emissions for EU export products
Customized one-on-one consultation and consulting will be conducted through on-site visits to companies.
The Ministry of Environment provides consultation and consulting for companies considering responding to the European Union (EU)’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
The Ministry of Environment announced that it will recruit companies wishing to receive consultation on carbon emissions calculations starting on April 22 to support export companies subject to the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment System.
Since October last year, the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment System has been receiving reports of carbon (greenhouse gas) emissions from companies around the world planning to export to the European Union market for six categories, including steel and cement.
From January 2026, the cost of carbon emissions generated during the product manufacturing process must be paid in the form of certificate purchases.
Our export companies, which are required by the European Union to calculate carbon emissions for exported products, are having difficulty calculating emissions.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment is launching the 'European Union Carbon Border Adjustment System Corporate Support Consulting' project to strengthen the carbon emission calculation capacity of export companies.
This consultation project is targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises exporting products subject to the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment System.
Even if there is no export performance to the EU, small and medium-sized enterprises that produce intermediate goods (precursors) can also be supported if the intermediate goods they produce and deliver are ultimately produced into products exported to the EU.
The consulting business covers a total of 60 companies. We want to help you calculate greenhouse gas emissions for your exported products and prepare a reporting form using the standards set out by the European Union.
In addition, we provide a tool for calculating carbon emissions of products and provide training to strengthen the ability to calculate emissions by product so that companies can respond to carbon trade regulations in other countries, such as the United States.
'EU Carbon Border Adjustment System Corporate Support Consultation' is conducted by the Korea Environment Corporation, and employees directly visit selected companies to provide customized support for calculating carbon emissions.
For inquiries and confirmation regarding this corporate support consultation, please contact the help desk (EU CBAM Help Desk, phone number 1551-3213).
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment has been publishing an 'Easy-to-Understand Guide to Calculating Emissions' that reflects the European Union's standard carbon emissions calculation method and operating a help desk. This corporate support consultation is a more specific support method to provide practical help to export companies.
Lee Young-seok, director general of the Ministry of Environment’s Climate Change Policy Bureau, said, “This consulting support is intended to help companies that are having difficulties calculating their carbon emissions,” and added, “We will gradually expand the scope of areas that require additional support, such as ‘verification’ and ‘calculation of already paid (prepaid) carbon prices,’ which the European Union plans to announce after the middle of next year, taking into account the timing of local announcements.”
