This meeting was held as a follow-up measure to the ICT MOU signed by the two ministers at the Presidential Palace of Turkmenistan in the presence of the two heads of state on the morning of the 17th.

Minister Yoo Young-min first explained that through Korea's 'I-Korea 4.0' strategy, Korea is promoting the development and utilization of technologies related to data, networks, and AI, which are the DNA of the 4th Industrial Revolution. He also emphasized the importance of policy sharing and cooperation between the two ministries in the era of digital transformation, as the optimal partner for the 'digital economy concept' promoted by Turkmenistan.

In addition, while introducing the experience of launching the world's first 5G commercial service in June of last year through smooth policy implementation, such as the auction of 5G-only frequencies, he requested special attention so that Korean companies with world-class 5G capabilities can have the opportunity to contribute to TNEP.

TNEP (Turkmenistan Network Enhancement Project) is a project to upgrade the communication environment of all regions of Turkmenistan to 4G and 5G, and is a project worth approximately 300 billion won supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
/> In addition, Minister Yoo discussed ways to cooperate with the Turkmen Ministry of Industry and Communications in the field of space satellite development. He emphasized that Korea has successfully developed 15 satellites and has also cooperated with foreign countries in satellite development, and mentioned that he hopes that related organizations and companies from both countries will seek areas of cooperation to activate full-scale cooperation and produce tangible results.

Minister Yoo said, “Cooperation in the 5G and space sectors with Turkmenistan, which was a hub of the ancient Silk Road with economic development potential, will serve as an important stepping stone for related Korean companies to advance into Central Asia in the future.” He added, “I hope that this meeting will serve as an opportunity to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in areas such as infrastructure construction and human resource development in the telecommunications and satellite industries.”
