32-bit MCU, graphics implemented at 800x600 pixel resolution
Launched first in China, commercialization ranges from elevators to premium home appliances

ADChips has released the adStar-L, a low-power MCU that supports TFT-LCD with graphics and video processing. It is an upgraded version of the previous version, adStar-D, with lower price and power.

ADISTAR-L is a product that combines 32-bit processor performance and motion JPEG (MJPEG). This reduces CPU load and increases system efficiency, allowing process-intensive applications to run at lower power.

In particular, it has a built-in TFT-LCD controller and supports 800x600 pixel resolution with RGB888 or RGB565 output.

“As smartphones became popular, the demand for TFT-LCD increased, and because we had been preparing for this in advance, we were able to respond quickly to the market,” said Lee Hee, Vice President of ADCHIPS. “The 32-bit CPU core installed in ADSTAR-L is similar in size to an 8-bit CPU (8051), so it is possible to use a 32-bit CPU at the price of an 8-bit CPU.”

It can reduce costs by not using a separate external frame memory, and can be used in a wide range of fields with a maximum operating speed of 100 MHz. It is classified into a total of four product groups according to the capacity of the internal flash memory and SDRAM.

The ecosystem of the ADISTAR series can accelerate development time by providing various existing software libraries, application notes, and drivers along with the MCU development board.

Aidista-L was first launched in China two years ago. It has been commercialized in LCD panels that display floor numbers and images in elevators, induction cookers, kitchen fans, and premium home appliances.

The vice president said, “We decided to officially launch it in Korea based on our commercialization performance in the Chinese market,” and “We also plan to launch adStar-G, which is capable of implementing high-end graphics, in the near future.”
