ON Semiconductor Provides High-Performance Wi-Fi Solutions for Homes
Internet traffic surges during working hours compared to regular peak hours As COVID-19 spreads around the world, schools and businesses are closing, and events and gatherings are being canceled or postponed, causing chaos.
Most cities are currently free from traffic congestion, but are experiencing a significant spike in Internet traffic due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to recent data released by Open Vault, a broadband usage data collection and analysis company, home internet usage increased by 11% during typical peak times (6 p.m. to 11 p.m.), but increased by 34% during working hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). WiFi currently accounts for more than half of Internet traffic, and that share is growing.
Especially these days, people are relying more on their home WiFi than ever before to continue working, attending school, and staying entertained, which means they’re spending more time on video conferencing, VPNs, distance learning, video streaming, online gaming, and more.
To this end, ON Semiconductor collaborates with Internet service providers and home terminal manufacturers to provide high-performance WiFi solutions for the home.
▲ ON Semiconductor unveils solution to improve home Wi-Fi speed Internet speed It is important for users to find out and understand the Internet speed they are subscribed to through their Internet Service Provider.
Discuss the number of users and devices that will be connected in each household and choose the appropriate option for your needs. One quick way to test your internet speed is to use a free resource like an internet speed test site.
Modem/Gateway/Router Many Internet service providers provide or lease a modem and gateway when you sign up for Internet service, but if not, you need to make sure they have a model that can deliver the Internet speeds you're paying for.
You can check with your Internet Service Provider's technical support department to see if your equipment is compatible; if you're not getting the Internet speeds you're paying for, you may have legacy equipment that needs to be upgraded.
Mesh Repeater and Extender Your WiFi signal will be strong when you're near your modem or router, but if you have dead spots or areas in your home with weak signals, you may want to consider adding a few mesh nodes or extenders.
This is one of the easy ways to extend WiFi coverage throughout your home.
Dual Band Dual Concurrent Technology Many WiFi routers today have the ability to transmit data on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands.
When setting up a router for your home network, you will see an option to set a WiFi name and password for the additional 5GHz band.
The 2.4GHz band tends to be crowded, so when connecting your mobile device to your home network, connecting to the 5GHz band will avoid congestion and allow you to use the Internet at faster speeds.
MU-MIMO MU-MIMO is multi-user and multi-input/output.If you are a user with many connected devices, choosing a WiFi router that supports MU-MIMO will allow multiple devices to stream simultaneously.
