U+ responds to the sudden increase in non-face-to-face traffic
Completion of construction of nationwide network based on next-generation optical transmission technology
Securing the nation's first 600G transmission capable network

LG Uplus announced on the 24th that it has completed construction of a new nationwide backbone network for businesses based on the latest optical transmission technology and is now offering services in earnest.

U+ introduced ROADM (Re-configurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer), the next-generation optical transmission equipment from Ciena of the U.S., and built a mesh network that directly interconnects 28 major cities across the country, thereby achieving low latency and path diversification and strengthening data transmission stability.

The newly introduced ROADM can freely reconfigure optical signals remotely and is the first in Korea to apply a variable wavelength (Flexible Grid) method to respond to rapidly increasing traffic. This allows for a network capacity of up to 600G, which is six times more than the existing network, in case of a traffic surge.

It is directly linked to cloud data centers operated by companies, making it easy to configure network expansion, so that public institutions, large corporations, financial institutions, and global companies can also manage stable, high-quality traffic.

U+ also applied OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) technology to measure loss, disconnection points, and distance of optical cables throughout the entire new backbone network. This enables intuitive real-time cable status monitoring, shortening response time in the event of a failure.

In addition, through Siena's ROADM, which has acquired the most global major SAN (Storage Area Network) linkage certifications, disaster recovery (DR) line services can be configured more stably, allowing for a quick response to failures or disasters.

U+ Koo Seong-cheol, head of wired business at U+, said, “As cloud services such as telecommuting, video conferencing, and remote classes are expanding, we have completed the construction of a new backbone network that can accommodate the needs of various corporate customers,” adding, “We expect to be able to provide a higher level of service through a flexible and stable transmission network.”
