Providing 5.5G network coverage with China Unicom
Up to 10Gbps downlink speeds and 5Gbps+ sustained connection
Huawei provides large-scale 5.5G network coverage in urban areas in China.
Huawei announced on the 31st that it had successfully completed a large-scale 5.5G network pilot project in Beijing, China, together with China Unicom's Beijing branch.
Through this pilot deployment, the two companies are providing continuous network coverage to three locations in the city center: Beijing Financial Street, Beijing Long Distance Call Building, and Beijing Workers' Stadium. Huawei said, "This network is expected to become the standard for 5.5G networks and applications across China in the future."
The two companies’ 5.5G networks provide up to 10Gbps downlink speeds and sustained connections of over 5Gbps. They also implement high-bandwidth and low-bandwidth coordination and flexible deployment of outdoor and indoor 5.5G equipment. It also supports a variety of new applications for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and extended reality (XR) technologies, including glasses-free 3D and ultra-high definition (UHD) real-time broadcasting systems.
The newly built 5.5G network by Huawei and China Unicom underwent comprehensive evaluation at the 5.5G industry event hosted by the Beijing Institute of Communications (BIC) earlier this year. Industry experts tested the 5.5G network and a number of enterprise (toB) and consumer (toC) applications deployed in the Beijing Financial Street demonstration area.
In an application demonstration, the indoor 5.5G network built in the Changtudianhua Building in Beijing supports 4Gbps uplink speeds for △glasses-free 3D △UHD low-compression real-time production system △8K+ uplink live streaming △XR separate rendering, etc.
Meanwhile, Huawei and China Unicom Beijing Branch have maintained an ongoing partnership since the start of the 5G network construction in 2019. Through the partnership, the two companies have achieved achievements such as building gigabit hotspots and 200MHz 5G city networks, and announcing user experience-based network evaluation standards and smart network operation definitions. They have also won two awards at the GSMA Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO).
