Signed a contract to deploy the first CT cabin baggage screening system, the 'HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX'

(Jeju, South Korea, Oct. 25 , 2018 PRNewswire=Yonhap News) Smiths Detection [ http://www.smithsdetection.com/ ], a leading global supplier of threat detection and surveillance technology for the aviation, port and border, urban security and defense markets, today announced that it, together with distribution partner Donggok Precision Co., Ltd., has been awarded a $7 million contract by Korea Airport Corporation (KAC) to supply Jeju International Airport with five units each of HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, iLane.evo and IONSCAN 600, as well as Smiths Detection's Checkpoint Management Software and Checkpoint Evo Plus.

Jeju International Airport becomes the first airport to install the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX [ https://www.smithsdetection.com/products/hi-scan-6040-ctix/ ]. This device, launched by Smiths Detection in November last year, is a state-of-the-art cabin baggage screening system based on computed tomography (CT).

Airport security checkpoints are crucial for all travelers, yet they are known to elicit the most negative reactions during the passenger journey.[1] Consequently, airports worldwide have been striving to provide passengers with a faster and more comfortable experience at security checkpoints. Built using Smiths Detection's proprietary technology, the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX eliminates the need for travelers to remove electronic devices and liquids from their carry-on luggage, significantly reducing the time travelers spend in security screening.

“With the increasing number of travelers passing through Jeju International Airport and the growing need to comply with stricter security standards, Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) was looking for a screening solution with cutting-edge design, efficiency and high throughput,” said Lee Kwang-sun, CEO of Donggok Security. “As a long-standing distributor and partner of Smiths Detection in Korea, we are confident in its innovative solutions and expertise. We look forward to working with Smiths Detection and KAC to improve security screening operations at the airport and ensure passenger satisfaction at every step of the passenger journey.”

The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX [ https://www.smithsdetection.com/products/hi-scan-6040-ctix/ ] cabin baggage screening system uses CT technology to improve passenger throughput and lower overall airport costs while providing the highest level of security. iLane.evo [ https://www.smithsdetection.com/products/ilane-evo/ ] is an efficient tray handling system designed to eliminate bottlenecks for a consistent tray flow. The IONSCAN 600 [ https://www.smithsdetection.com/products/ionscan-600/ ] is a portable explosives detector that can accurately detect and identify a variety of explosives in less than eight seconds. When used together, these three systems further streamline operations and screening procedures, reducing passenger wait times at security checkpoints.

“We are extremely honored to partner with Korea Airports Corporation (KAC),” said John Tan, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Smiths Detection. “This win is a perfect validation of our products and expertise in the aviation security sector.” He continued, “Asia is also experiencing significant growth in travel and tourism, and airports in the region are increasingly relying on technology to create safer and more comfortable experiences for passengers. The system deployed at Jeju International Airport is a very important milestone as we further expand our business in the Asia Pacific region.”

HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, iLane.evo, IONSCAN 600, as well as Smiths Detection Checkpoint Management Software and Checkpoint Evo Plus, are scheduled to be deployed at Jeju International Airport by the end of this year.
