Environmental Corporation·E-Circulation Governance and Small Secondary Battery Collection and Recycling Business Agreement Signed
Cooperation in transitioning to a circular economy society, including establishment and operation of an electronic product resource circulation system LG Electronics is taking the lead in collecting and recycling used cordless vacuum cleaner batteries and practicing ESG management.
On the 7th, LG Electronics signed a 'small secondary battery collection and recycling business agreement' with the Korea Environment Corporation and E-Circulation Governance at LG Smart Park 2 in Changwon, Gyeongnam.
LG Electronics and the two organizations agreed to cooperate in establishing and operating a resource circulation system for electronic products, introducing related systems such as incentives for excellent recycling companies, and transitioning to a circular economy society.
LG Electronics will run the 'Battery Return' campaign from May 7 to June 30.
The goal is to collect used cordless vacuum cleaner batteries to encourage customers to participate in recycling and provide a discount when purchasing new batteries.
This campaign has been held twice a year since 2022, and this is its fifth time. Starting this year, LG Electronics, Korea Environment Corporation, and E-Circular Governance will co-host the event.
Rare metals such as nickel (31.91g), cobalt (4.21g), lithium (6.06g), and manganese (2.04g) are recovered from one used battery of LG Electronics' 'Code Zero A9S' cordless vacuum cleaner.
LG Electronics plans to recycle rare metals extracted from collected used batteries into new battery materials.
Over the past two years (2022-2023), a total of 63,000 customers have participated in the LG Electronics Battery Turn campaign.
The total weight of waste batteries collected by LG Electronics is 512,000 tons, and the number of batteries is approximately 113,000.
The rare metals extracted here are enough to make about 100,000 new batteries, based on the LG Electronics Code Zero A9S.
Customers who wish to participate in the campaign can return used cordless vacuum cleaner batteries to any LG Electronics service center nationwide, regardless of the manufacturer.
If you return the used battery and purchase a new battery for the LG Electronics CordZero A9S cordless vacuum cleaner at a service center, you will receive a 20,000 won discount.
Customers who have difficulty visiting an LG Electronics service center can return used batteries to a nearby waste home appliance collection box. The locations of waste home appliance collection boxes can be found on the Resource Recycling Practice Platform website (https://www.recycling-info.or.kr/act4r).
In this case, you can still purchase a new battery at a discount of up to 11,000 won on the LG Electronics website.
LG Electronics H&A Business Headquarters Living Solution Business Division Vice President Baek Seung-tae said, “We will not only provide a differentiated customer experience with the premium cordless vacuum cleaner CordZero A9S, but also continue various ESG activities to transition to a circular economy society, such as collecting and recycling used batteries.”
