Mitsubishi Reduces TCO with 'iQ-R' Series and 'MELSERVO-J4'
“We will provide automation support solutions through collaboration-centered eF@ctory” Mitsubishi Electric Automation Korea (hereinafter referred to as Mitsubishi) unveiled a number of control and drive-related factory automation solutions at ‘Automation World 2018’ held for three days from March 28 to 30.
Mitsubishi showcased solutions for improving quality and productivity through sequence demos, HMI, inverters, robots, and servos, as well as energy saving and facility maintenance solutions for manufacturing sites. In addition, it set up a corner for the FA-IT integrated solution, 'eF@ctory', to showcase partner products and suggest practical innovations.
In particular, 'eF@ctory' is a solution that collects and analyzes data from production sites in real time through collaboration with partners at levels that the company does not handle, provides feedback, and efficiently links information with IT systems.

The flagship product, the automation controller 'iQ-R' series, implements system added value improvement and TCO reduction. It supports the construction of a system with high productivity and stable manufacturing quality. In addition, the precision servo-related device 'MELSERVO-J4' contributes to TCO reduction by expanding the pursuit of high-speed, high-precision control and the failure prediction and driver recorder functions that support maintenance. In addition, it has the feature of controlling a processing machine using a general-purpose servo as an add-on library of the motion controller with G-code to realize various trajectory controls and supporting the improvement of added value of the production line in combination with synchronous control.
The FA product exhibition booth was set up to provide a comprehensive view of the functions of various FA devices and production lines centered on new products. The main stage introduced solutions utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as edge computing, AI, and AR, and presented practical solutions from design efficiency to operation monitoring and preventive maintenance. Mitsubishi’s products presented at Automation World 2018 are applied to display FPDs, LCDs, secondary batteries, solar cells, automobiles, and mobile phones.
Kim Sung-mok, CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Automation Korea, said, “In the past, the role of individual supplier of PLCs, servos, inverters, etc. through exhibitions was significant, but as the spread of smart factories is actively progressing through public-private partnerships, we want to provide solutions that support automation through ‘eF@ctory’ that focuses on cooperation.” He explained, “Since it is a software-centric product, the key is to show visitors how Mitsubishi solutions work within the system rather than just the visual product.”
