Schneider Electric claims that it can achieve efficiency in motor management through its digital motor starter, 'TeSys Island'.
Schneider Electric held a media conference on the topic of 'Digital Motor Management System TeSys Island' at the Schneider Electric Magok headquarters on the 16th. Schneider Electric Korea Power Products Division Manager Oh Jeong-hoon introduced the product and its special features, and Manager Do Hyeon-tae demonstrated the product.
The latest trend in motor management systems applied to all business facilities is also ‘smartization.’ In order to prevent aging and equipment failures that cause productivity declines, more than 70% of motors, which are essential in manufacturing facilities, are moving toward digitalization.
Currently, various solutions are installed to prevent motor load. In order to prevent overcurrent, the following are essential: △An electronic contactor that acts as a control switch, △An overload relay, △A motor protection relay (EOCR), and △A meter.
Schneider's Tesis Island, introduced that day, is an IIoT-based digital motor starter that integrates four functions into a single module. It simplifies all wiring by connecting multiple motor starters with a single communication cable.
The Tesis Island can handle up to 80A of motors and other electrical loads by combining up to 20 starters in a modular configuration in an island configuration. It is explained that MCC panels with a large number of loads are even more powerful.
In addition, it is possible to upgrade by simply adding products without changing existing facilities, and it is compatible with third-party PLCs. Through the 'bus coupler', which is the brain of Tesis Island, high security certification can be obtained, and various communication topologies can be configured. A module with predictive maintenance function will also be added in the fourth quarter of this year.
Schneider offers a digital object called the 'TeSys Avatar' that replaces physical functions. It helps simulate functions and perform tasks in online tools, like a digital twin. In other words, hardware can be configured with software, logic and parameters can be loaded, and controlled from a PLC.
Tesis Island is telecommunications enabled and can be connected to Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Cloud.
“It can be used mainly in conveyor belts, pump industries, and all kinds of machines,” said Manager Oh. “Although existing relay-type hardware rings are risky, this product has an advantage over other companies in that it can directly turn the electronic switch on and off.”
He also added, “It may be burdensome to have to use a bus coupler as a very new product in Korea, but I think it is just a matter of time,” and “We expect to target large companies and overseas markets first, and then gradually acquire the domestic pipeline as well.”
