Free technical training for domestic gear train related industries
The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (President Ryu Seok-hyun), under the Ministry of Science and ICT, is actively working to enhance the competitiveness of companies by utilizing its own online mechanical design platform, ‘Smart DP (Smart Design Platform)’, which contains 40 years of mechanical design know-how.
The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials announced on the 17th that it has developed 'Smart DP', an online service platform containing 40 years of know-how in mechanical design to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic industries, and has been officially providing it to frontline companies since 2020.
He also mentioned that they are supporting domestic industries with advanced gear train design software utilizing this and are supporting the strengthening of corporate competitiveness through continuous personnel training, etc.
SmartDP, developed by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, is a software that can virtually design 21 types of core mechanical parts required in the mechanical industry, including gear trains, fastening parts, spray nozzles, laser processing equipment, plasma processing equipment, gas combustors, and electric dust collectors.
Based on the design software of gear trains related to 12 government national strategic technologies, including advanced mobility, space and aviation, which are embedded in this software, the domestic industry for machine elements such as gears and bearings, which are the foundation of the machine industry, is developed.It has contributed to improving the competitiveness of the body.
So far, several companies, including Hanwha Aerospace, LG Electronics, and LS Mtron, have received technology transfer for gear train design programs and used them for tractor transmission design, and Hyundai Mobis has also used SmartDP for gearbox design. The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials has supported gear train design programs for a total of 25 companies to date.
In addition, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials has been promoting the 'Gear Train Conference' every year since 2022 to share the latest research results in the domestic gear train field through close cooperation with the Gear Train Research Group of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers, and is also providing solutions to resolve difficulties faced by related companies and providing education and technology transfer for necessary technologies.
In relation to this, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials held a free education seminar on advanced gear train design software and application technology for domestic gear train-related industries at its Daejeon headquarters on January 17.
In addition to advanced gear train manufacturers such as Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Mobis, and Hanwha Aerospace, mechanical parts manufacturers such as Sail Industrial, Jinmyung Powertech, and Ail Co., Ltd. participated.
Lee Han-min, head of the Smart Industrial Machinery Research Lab at KIMM, said, “KIMM has researched and developed various advanced gear train technologies, including advanced gear train design software, aircraft power transmission design, construction/agricultural machinery power transmission design, and robot harmonic drives, and has contributed to enhancing national competitiveness through localization and technology transfer to domestic industries.” He continued, “We will continue to support more companies to shorten their product development cycles by utilizing the advanced technologies provided by KIMM and to enhance their competitiveness through a virtuous cycle of reducing development costs and maximizing sales through improved performance.”
