Hanjayeon, SAEI, KIAT, Technology Cooperation for Development of International Standards in the Future Mobility Sector

MOU for standard development in V2X, connected autonomous driving, and cybersecurity
The purpose is to contribute to the promotion of global competitiveness in the field of standardization of domestic companies.

The Korea Automobile Research Institute (KARI) is taking the lead in developing international standards for future mobility in cooperation with the U.S. SAE International (SAEI) and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT).

President Seungsik Na of Hanjaewon, President Christian Thiele of SAEI, and President Byeongju Min of KIAT announced on the 26th that they signed a ‘MOU for the development of international standards in the field of future mobility’ at the Waldorf Astoria Washington D.C. Hotel in Washington D.C., USA on the 25th.

SAEI, in cooperation with Hanjayeon, was established in 1905 as the predecessor of SAE and is a standards organization with approximately 200,000 members from 86 countries around the world working to develop global automotive and aviation standard technologies.

This MOU is part of the Korea-US Advanced Industry and Clean Energy Partnership event hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and aims to contribute to promoting the global competitiveness of domestic companies in the standardization field by establishing international standards for future mobility and promoting international joint R&D projects between the two countries.

This MOU signed by the three organizations is for the joint development of Advanced V2X, Connected Autonomous Driving, and Cyber Security SAE standards, and joint development of SAE-ISO international standards.△We plan to promote various cooperative projects such as planning and promoting international joint R&D projects, inter-agency workshops, and personnel exchanges.

Na Seung-sik, president of Hanjayun, said, “We are making efforts to take the lead in commercializing connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) worldwide,” and added, “We hope to play a leading role in the development of future mobility-related standards through the joint establishment of various SAE standards and SAE-ISO standards.”
