Seongnam City (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) and the Lotte Consortium have joined hands to build infrastructure for urban air mobility (UAM), including a vertiport and securing air routes.

On the 6th, Seongnam City signed a 'Business Agreement for Establishing Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Infrastructure in Seongnam City' with Lotte Construction, Lotte Rental, and Lotte Data Communication (Lotte Consortium) at Lotte World Tower, taking the first step toward commercializing urban air traffic.

UAM (Urban Air Mobility) refers to a transportation system in which passengers ride in aircraft that utilize eco-friendly energy, so-called 'air taxis'.

Through this agreement ceremony, Seongnam City aims to cooperate with the Lotte Consortium in the future mobility urban air traffic (UAM) field to make Seongnam City a hub for integrated mobility services based on safety, convenience, and economy.

The agreement includes major cooperation items such as review of infrastructure such as vertiports and demonstration sites, securing air routes for demonstration and commercialization, and seeking a future-oriented development direction through improved social acceptance.

Since last year, Seongnam City has maintained a cooperative relationship with the Lotte Consortium, including the establishment of UAM movement route data using drones, review of the economic feasibility of building vertiports, and consulting on flight safety.

The Lotte Consortium is developing innovative technologies for urban air mobility (UAM), which has emerged as a means to solve urban ground traffic congestion, under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's leadership. It is one of the participating organizations in the Korean Urban Air Mobility Demonstration Project (K-UAM Grand Challenge).

Mayor Shin Sang-jin said, “Urban air traffic is a future technology that can make citizens’ lives richer and more convenient,” and added, “Seongnam City will become the center of innovation in the aviation industry.”
