Solar power generation facilities completed at Dongtan, Incheon, and Gimhae direct service centers
Reduces carbon by 1,000 tons per year… equivalent to planting 70,000 trees per year Starting in October of last year, Volvo Trucks Korea installed solar power generation facilities at three directly-operated service centers in Dongtan, Incheon, and Gimhae, converting 100% of the electricity used in Korea to green energy.
Volvo Trucks Korea announced on the 25th that it achieved RE100 by using 100% renewable energy electricity in its domestic business sites.
Volvo Trucks Korea's RE100 achievement this time includes direct renewable energy generation of approximately 2GWh per year and offshore power purchase agreements (PPA), reducing carbon emissions by 1,000 tons per year.
This is equivalent to planting more than 70,000 trees every year.
Volvo Trucks Korea's conversion of 100% of the electricity used in Korea to green energy is considered a representative success story at a time when realistic difficulties in achieving RE100 are emerging due to the lack of domestic solar and wind power infrastructure.
Volvo Trucks is implementing its group-wide vision of sustainability by setting and implementing stage-by-stage targets for 2030, 2040, and 2050.
By 2030, 50% of trucks sold will be electric trucksThe goal is to replace all products sold with products that do not emit carbon dioxide, and to replace and sell all products sold with products that do not emit carbon dioxide by 2040.
We are also working towards the Volvo Group-wide vision of sustainability and carbon neutrality, including achieving net zero emissions in all processes involving Volvo Trucks by 2050.
Park Kang-seok, President of Volvo Trucks Korea, said, “The effort to create a sustainable world for the next generation is a responsibility that we all must take interest in and participate in. I believe that the large and small movements implemented by Volvo Trucks Korea, such as the eco-campaign, digital transformation of work, and introduction of electric trucks, will generate interest and participation from other companies and members of society.”
Meanwhile, Volvo Trucks was the first in the commercial vehicle industry to introduce mass production of large electric trucks in 2019 and currently sells a total of six electric truck models, possessing the widest product line in the industry.
As of the end of 2023, it accounted for 49% of the European market share of large electric trucks weighing 16 tons or more, and its large electric truck 'FH Electric' was selected as the '2024 Truck of the Year (IToY 2024, International Truck of the Year 2024)', proving its excellent performance.
In addition, Volvo Trucks Korea introduced the FH Electric, a large electric truck for the first time in the domestic commercial vehicle industry, in March 2023, and is currently carrying out various tasks to deliver the Volvo FH Electric to customers in the domestic commercial vehicle market as soon as possible.
