LG Energy Solution is moving to commercialize a new battery management system (BMS) diagnostic solution based on a System-on-Chip (SoC).

LG Energy Solution announced on the 23rd that it has signed a joint promotion agreement with Qualcomm and will begin full-scale cooperation to commercialize SoC-based BMS diagnostic solutions.

LG Energy Solution’s advanced BMS software is used in conjunction with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® Digital Chassis™.

The solution will also be integrated into the Snapdragon® Car-to-Cloud Connected Services Platform, enabling OEMs to leverage diagnostic solutions for human machine interfaces (HMIs) and cloud services.

Earlier this year, LG Energy Solution and Qualcomm announced a plan to collaborate on the development of next-generation BMS diagnostic solutions for electric vehicles and formed a technology consultative body to conduct research. Through this collaboration, the two companies have solidified their leadership in BMS technology.

LG Energy Solution has collaborated with Qualcomm to develop BMS software to be installed on the Snapdragon Digital Chassis. The BMS solution, which utilizes high-performance SoC computing performance, is the first in the industry and differentiates itself from existing BMS that were driven by low-spec hardware. This solution has significantly improved safety diagnostics and deterioration/life prediction capabilities.

The high-performance computing performance of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis solution enables the collection of more data than conventional BMS, enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis of abnormal signs such as the possibility of fire. In addition, the 80x improved computing power enables the application of complex degradation algorithms, making it possible to predict the remaining battery capacity and check the degradation performance indicators of detailed components.

LG Energy Solution announced at its vision sharing meeting that it would expand its business into the software and service sectors.

We are launching a new brand, 'B.around', and are actively promoting the BMTS (Battery Management Total Solution) business. B.around comprehensively provides various functions beyond the functions of existing BMS, from safety diagnosis, deterioration and life prediction software that combines cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, to a platform for software-centric vehicles (SDVs).

LG Energy Solution holds over 8,000 BMS-related patents with over 20 years of BMS design capabilities and analysis technology based on empirical data, boasting a safety diagnosis detection rate of over 90% and a degradation diagnosis error rate of 1%, the highest in the industry.
