LG Electronics will demonstrate an IVI solution that combines its in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) platform, 'webOS Auto', and Microsoft's 'MCVP (Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform)'.

The demonstration will be held at MS's exhibition booth for four days starting on the 12th.

In this demonstration, LG Electronics uses MCVP to transmit information such as the number of uses, usage time, and app version of the webOS Auto-based IVI app to Microsoft's cloud. MS presents a scenario where this information is analyzed with its own solution (Power BI) and the results are confirmed on an external device.

Customers can conveniently use various business solutions and intelligent services from MS in their cars through MCVP.

When webOS Auto is connected to MCVP, various data generated in the vehicle can be sent to the cloud, and partner customers can use the data collected in the cloud to provide various services.

WebOS is LG Electronics' software platform, and has been featured on LG Electronics smart devices, including smart TVs, digital signage, and smart home appliances, since 2014. Designed with a software architecture that facilitates the easy application of new services and technologies, webOS allows developers to conveniently integrate it into products across a wide range of industries.

This year, LG Electronics is developing webOS Auto, a Linux-based IVI platform, and is strengthening its support for various clouds so that it can go beyond the role of a traditional infotainment platform and serve as an in-vehicle hub for connected car services.

“By securing MS as a partner to provide cloud services for vehicles, we have enhanced the competitiveness of webOS Auto,” said Choi Hee-won, Executive Vice President of CTO at LG Electronics. “We will continue to strive to provide high-quality connected car services through the IVI platform that connects various partners’ solutions to the cloud.”

Meanwhile, in March 2018, LG Electronics released the "webOS Open Source Edition" on its developer site, making it available to anyone. Building on this open strategy, LG Electronics is collaborating with global companies and research institutes to enable easy and convenient integration of webOS into other companies' products.
