LG Innotek has developed the world's first '2nd generation V2X full module' for connected cars and autonomous vehicles.

This product has commercial-level wireless communication performance, is more durable than the first generation, and is small in size, making it easy to install anywhere in a vehicle. In addition, this module integrates three V2X core components into one: the HCI module that controls the communication protocol, the hardware security module (HSM), and the application processor (AP).

The company said that automakers and auto parts manufacturers can use the '2nd generation V2X full module' to improve the communication performance, safety, and quality reliability of connected cars without having to separately install and test multiple parts.

The '2nd generation V2X full module' is durable enough to operate normally even under high-temperature thermal shock of 105 degrees Celsius. It applied its own developed heat dissipation design technology. There is no problem even in the harsh environment of midsummer when the temperature inside the vehicle reaches 90 degrees. In addition, this product is small enough to be installed anywhere inside the vehicle, with a size of about one-third of a credit card. It is ultra-small, measuring 40 millimeters (mm) wide, 35 mm long, and 4 mm thick, even though it contains all the main components, such as the HCI module, HSM, and AP.

In particular, it recorded a transmission power of 23 decibel milliwatts (dBm) and a reception sensitivity of -94 dBm at a communication speed of 6 Mbps, exceeding the commercialization level. Its performance is so excellent that it can transmit and receive without interruption within a range of 1 km even when the vehicle is traveling at a speed of 120 km/h.

With the development of this 'V2X full module', LG Innotek has been able to accelerate its conquest of the connected car parts market. It plans to provide the best solution for each customer based on its solid product lineup. The company can provide customized supplies from HCI modules to full modules according to the functions desired by automakers and auto parts companies. In particular, it has V2X modules optimized for each chipset of the major V2X chipset companies, Autotalks, NXP Semiconductors, and Qualcomm.
