The Ministry of Science and ICT established the ‘Research Equipment Industry Innovation Growth Strategy’ in August 2020 to secure global competitiveness in research equipment technology, create an industrial ecosystem, and establish a strategic market entry support system.
The domestic research equipment utilization lab that is opening this time is one of the follow-up measures of the 'Research Equipment Industry Innovation Growth Strategy' and is the 4th facility following the Daejeon Center (May 2016, KBSI), the Jeonju Center (November 2016, Jeonbuk National University), and the Seoul Center (September 2018, Korea University).
The domestic research equipment utilization lab has been established in each region since 2016 by pooling the capabilities of the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), and KRISS.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to operate various programs through the Standards and Measurement Institute’s Domestic Research Equipment Utilization Lab to improve researchers’ awareness of domestic research equipment and increase its utilization.
A service is provided for domestic small and medium-sized enterprises and researchers to use domestic research equipment free of charge, and training is also provided on how to use it.
In addition, we operate a program to improve the performance of promising domestic research equipment by utilizing KRISS's measurement standard technology and advanced equipment development technology.
Yong Hong-taek, Director of the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Research and Development Policy Office, said, “The research equipment industry is a key field that leads to the development of basic and original technologies and industrial development,” and added, “We will systematically support domestic research equipment utilization labs so that they can serve as regional bases for developing domestic and international markets, improving the technologies of domestic companies, and fostering professional manpower.”
