The great feat of electing the fourth chairman of the Republic of Korea since joining ITU
Development of IoT/Smart City Core Standards Focus on Asia-Pacific Standardization
Kim Hyung-jun, director of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), has been appointed as the chairman of the Internet of Things and Smart City Research Group at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-20), where he will contribute to enhancing Korea's international standardization competitiveness and industrial development in the future.
ETRI announced that Director Hyungjun Kim of the Intelligent Convergence Research Center was elected as the chairman of the Internet of Things and Smart City Research Group at the 2020 World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-20) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) held in Geneva, Switzerland on the 9th, becoming the fourth Korean national since joining the ITU.
ETRI Director Kim Hyung-jun will take the lead in developing core standards for implementing smart cities based on IoT application services.
It also oversees standard development activities for various domains, including the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence-based smart agriculture.
ETRI Director Kim Hyung-jun said that the agency plans to focus on strengthening Korea’s standardization capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region by developing international standards through collaboration with standards experts in the Asia-Pacific region.
Meanwhile, Director Kim Hyung-jun was the first in Korea to establish an information and communication network in the Asia-Pacific region in the second half of 2020.He was also elected as the Chairman of the Association of Statistical and Promoting Aid to Aging (ASTAP).
ETRI Director Kim Hyung-jun said, “Recently, the world is focusing on building smart cities in major cities. Based on cooperation with domestic and foreign IoT industries, we will focus on leading international standardization and securing core source technologies to realize a smarter and safer hyper-connected society.”
