11 Ministries Announce KS Establishment/Revision Plan for 1,971 Cases
This year, the government's KS standard establishment and revision plan focuses on digital transformation standards such as autonomous driving, digital twins, and smart farms.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's National Institute of Standards and Technology (President Jin Jong-wook) held the 2023 Industrial Standards Deliberation Council Standards Conference General Meeting at the JW Marriott Hotel Seoul on the 10th and announced a plan for 11 ministries to establish and revise 1,971 KSs in 43 technology deliberation councils this year.
The Standards Council is the highest decision-making body of the Industrial Standards Deliberation Council that handles the establishment, revision, and abolition of KS and is comprised of 52 experts from industry, academia, research, and consumer groups.
The main focus of KS development this year is digital transformation. Each ministry presented the status of KS development in progress and exchanged opinions with the standards committee members.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it plans to continue to establish vehicle-to-everything (V2X) messages and KS for core autonomous vehicle components this year, starting with the establishment of national standards for defining autonomous vehicle levels in January.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport introduced the current status of the development of digital twin national KS for spatial information related to buildings, underground, terrain, indoors and transportation, and explained the direction of revision of digital twin national building standards through building standard verification projects and the promotion of development of dynamic sector standards.
The Rural Development Administration announced the development of KS in the field of agricultural electronic communication to expand the application of ICT technology to agricultural facilities and ensure compatibility between equipment installed in smart farms.
Additionally, the standards meeting decided to establish a new technology review committee to strengthen the expertise of KS development.
Recently, as various innovative services such as metaverse and fresh logistics increase, the Quality Management Service Technology Deliberation Committee will be reorganized into the Quality Management Technology Deliberation Committee and the Service Technology Deliberation Committee.
In order to strengthen the competitiveness of key industries, a machinery application technology deliberation committee will be established to deal with robots, machine tools, etc.
Jin Jong-wook, head of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, said, “The most urgent task in these difficult economic times is to contribute to the expansion of exports by our companies,” and expressed his will to support the growth of domestic companies through standards, saying, “We will support our technologies with standards so that they can become global.”
