Signing of MOU with RISE, a Swedish state-run research institute
The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (President Shin Hee-dong, hereinafter referred to as KETI) will collaborate with the Research Institute of Sweden (Acting Director Paul Halle Zahl Pedersen, hereinafter referred to as RISE), a state-run research institute in Sweden, to strengthen global R&D in cutting-edge industries such as next-generation semiconductors.
KETI announced on the 6th that it signed a multilateral business agreement (MOU) to strengthen global R&D cooperation in advanced industries with RISE, Korea Technology Evaluation and Planning Institute (President Jeon Yun-jong, hereinafter KEIT), Korea Automotive Research Institute (President Na Seung-sik, hereinafter KATECH), and Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Equipment Research Institute (President Bae Jeong-cheol, hereinafter KOMERI) on the 4th in Gothenburg, Sweden (local time).
Through this business agreement, the participating organizations agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation by promoting △global R&D cooperation △sharing of industrial policies and information △holding of seminars and workshops △personnel exchange in cutting-edge industries such as next-generation semiconductors and future automobiles.
RISE is a state-run research institute under the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation that integrates around 30 research institutes. It is Sweden's leading research institute that supports sustainable growth by promoting innovation in society as a whole and enhancing industrial competitiveness.
KETI supports the growth and securing of future food sources for the domestic electronics and IT industries through the development of technologies in cutting-edge industries such as next-generation semiconductors, related materials and components, and future mobility.
KATECH is It is a research institute that supports the domestic automobile industry, including small and medium-sized parts companies, by researching core automobile-related technologies and providing various technical support services, such as reliability and certification of parts.
Established in 2001, KOMERI supports the enhancement of the competitiveness of the shipbuilding and marine industry through technological development, testing and certification of domestic shipbuilding and marine equipment.
KEIT is a specialized institution for industrial technology R&D planning, evaluation, and management. Through this agreement, it will support the discovery of new cooperation items between Korea and Sweden and lead global R&D cooperation in the advanced industries between Korea and Sweden.
In the future, the five institutions plan to discover R&D items that can create synergy with Sweden's RISE in line with the government's policy of expanding international joint research for the development of world-class technologies.
As the start of the cooperation, the four organizations of KETI, RISE, KATECH, and KEIT will hold the Korea-Sweden Power Semiconductor Forum in Stockholm on the morning of the 6th, local time. The two sides of Korea and Sweden plan to share industry and technology trends for joint response to the global market and discover joint research items to secure the lead in next-generation power semiconductor technology.
KETI President Shin Hee-dong said, “In order to effectively respond to the climate change and energy crisis we are currently experiencing, we must secure technologies such as improved electric vehicle performance and high-efficiency energy conversion through the development of next-generation power semiconductor technology,” adding, “We will spare no effort in securing global technological competitiveness by supporting joint research and personnel exchanges with excellent overseas researchers.”
