Achieving high-level autonomous driving by improving sensor resolution and expanding detection range

NXP Semiconductors' '4D Imaging Radar' has been adopted by NIO Inc., a leading brand in the global premium smart electric vehicle market, helping to realize a high level of autonomous driving.

NXP today announced that Nio has adopted NXP’s leading automotive radar technology, including NXP’s groundbreaking imaging radar solutions.

NXP’s latest 4D imaging radar solution is a powerful technology that offers significant advantages over conventional radar. This solution could significantly improve the forward-facing radar performance of today’s vehicles.

It can improve road safety and end-user driving convenience by enabling vehicles to detect and classify objects such as other vehicles and vulnerable road users at distances of up to 300 m on highways and complex urban scenarios.

OEMs are increasingly focusing on introducing safety and convenience features to take autonomous driving services to the next level.

NXP’s imaging radar technology extends radar’s capabilities beyond measuring range and velocity to measuring heading, angle of arrival, and altitude.

Fine-resolution point clouds enhance environmental mapping and scene understanding, enabling detection and classification of objects beyond the range of human vision while measuring object velocity in virtually any weather and lighting conditions.

The technology is a key step towards improving road safety and saving lives, allowing vehicles to see a motorcycle driving near a large delivery truck or a child entering the road between parked cars.

NXP’s imaging radar solutions are the optimal choice for advanced, high-performance, forward-facing radar applications.

The product is part of NXP’s complete radar portfolio, providing software and hardware design reuse and seamless performance scalability across radar platforms.

The radar processor and transceiver chipset are combined to provide efficient advanced radar processing with high-performance RF technology, enabling Level 2+ autonomous driving services.
