ASML, which manufactures EUV equipment, a key component of semiconductor microfabrication, has established a new EUV equipment training center in Yongin.
ASML Korea opened a global training center equipped with an EUV live module at the Surplus Global Semiconductor Equipment Cluster located in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 16th.
It is reported that they will provide technical training programs such as Fab Ready2, an in-depth EUV equipment training course for CS engineers, and the Yongin center has a size of approximately 1,445㎡ and is equipped with a clean room, classroom, office, and other convenient facilities.
This new training center, one of ASML’s global training centers, specializes in EUV equipment training and was established to provide in-depth training and capacity building for ‘CS (Customer Support) Engineers’ responsible for installing, upgrading, and maintaining ASML’s EUV equipment.
The opening ceremony was attended by ASML Korea CEO Lee Woo-kyung, Richard Lammers, Korea/Japan Customer Support Field Operations Manager, Ralph Hanzen, Senior Project Manager of the Global Training Center, and Kim Nam-yoon, Global Training Center Korea Manager. Key executives, including Surplus Global CEO Kim Jeong-woong and industry officials, attended the event.
“We expect this training center to contribute to a 30% increase in ASML’s global EUV training supply by 2024,” said Namyoon Kim, Global Training Center Manager at ASML Korea.
The new global training center will support the use of EUV live modules in cleanrooms so engineers can train in a real-world working environment, and will offer technical training programs such as Fab ready2, an in-depth EUV equipment training course for CS engineers.
In addition, as part of our social contribution activities for the local community, we plan to take the lead in fostering future talent in the semiconductor industry by promoting an industry-academia cooperation program in conjunction with domestic universities.
ASML Korea CEO Woo-kyung Lee said, “ASML has been striving to respond quickly to the diverse needs of our customers by providing high-quality technologies,” adding, “This means that ASML is not simply a company that provides equipment and technology services, but is also continuously working to contribute to the success of our customers and the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in the countries where we operate.”
The representative added, “In the future, ASML plans to respond more quickly to the diverse needs of our customers and actively support the development of talent for the semiconductor ecosystem.”
Meanwhile, ASML opened the Hands on Academy in Korea in 2010, an educational facility to develop the capabilities of engineers responsible for installing and upgrading its equipment and to produce skilled engineers. Since then, it has continued to invest in the education and professional development of engineers in the semiconductor equipment field through its global training centers. ASML Korea opened its first global training center at its Dongtan headquarters in 2018.
