Cooperation in semiconductor design, development, testing, and distribution
Tenstorrent and LG Electronics have joined hands to develop next-generation smart TV semiconductor components.
TensorTorrent announced on the 31st that it is collaborating with LG Electronics to develop next-generation RISC-V, artificial intelligence (AI), and video codec chiplets for future LG premium TV and automotive products and TensorTorrent's data center products.
In this collaboration, LG, a global manufacturer of innovative home appliances and appliances, will receive TensorRent’s AI and RISC-V CPU technology, which is ideal for powering AI capabilities and high-performance computing in its future premium TVs, high-performance automotive chips, and other smart products.
TensorTorrent’s innovative and industry-leading AI and RISC-V CPU technologies will strengthen LG’s technology portfolio and ultimately help LG increase the competitiveness of its chip solutions.
Tensorrent, led by industry veteran and legendary CPU designer Jim Keller as its CEO, is the only company that can provide LG with the optimal technology to control its own semiconductor roadmap.
LG's video codec technology has been a core function in TV SoCs that have been adopted in premium TVs for over a decade. TensorTorrent and LG plan to collaborate at the chiplet level or IP level to provide video processing capabilities to TensorTorrent’s future data center products.
According to Sandvine's 2022 Global Internet Phenomena Report, video will account for 65% of all internet data volume and is growing rapidly.
“It is increasingly important for industry leaders to have their own semiconductor roadmap,” said Jim Keller, CEO of Tensorrent. “As a giant in the electronics industry, this collaboration will strengthen LG’s technology portfolio for future chip solutions and provide greater flexibility to differentiate its products.”
“This collaboration is just the beginning,” said LG Electronics CTO Kim Byung-hoon. “TenStorrent’s leading AI and RISC-V CPU technologies will strengthen the SoC competitiveness of LG’s future products, and LG’s video codec technology, which has been proven in the market for a long time, will help TenStorrent dominate the high-performance processor market for data centers.” He added, “Furthermore, through this collaboration, we will test whether chiplets can become a technology platform for collaboration. TenStorrent and LG Electronics will share technology roadmaps and continuously expand the scope of their collaboration.”
As part of this collaboration, the two companies will work together to design, develop, test and distribute semiconductors based on chiplet technology that will redefine technology collaboration.
