[Editor's Note] Asung Korea participated in the '2023 Power Electronics Conference' held at Hoengseong Welli Hilli Park from the 4th to the 6th. Asung announced that it has secured a parts lineup and development-related technology that can respond to solutions for electric vehicle traction inverters through cooperation with various companies. This can be significant in that it is moving forward with a strategy to break away from the image of Asung Korea as a traditional distribution company and establish itself as a total solution provider. Our magazine heard more about this through an interview with Sang-wook Cho, managing director of Asung Korea, who participated in the Power Electronics Conference.

■ Please introduce Asung Korea.
Asung is an electronic components and automation products technology distributor established in 1992, and has been managing with customer satisfaction as its goal for over 30 years.
We operate 17 bases in 4 countries including Korea, China, Vietnam, and most recently India, and we are competitively supporting the diverse needs of our customers.
We currently supply products from 23 vendors and support approximately 1,500 customers. We will continue to strive to become a good company that adds value to the global electronics industry by providing only reliable products through broader and more stable sales activities and technical support.
■ Many industries have also experienced difficulties due to disruptions in the supply of semiconductor components. I wonder what efforts Asung Korea has made to ensure a smooth supply of semiconductors.
In order to respond to the global semiconductor supply issue, Asung has been responding by constantly communicating with customers, surveying and compiling expected demand, and preparing quantities.
In addition, Asung operates its own logistics warehouse equipped with a computerized system that assigns barcodes to each product and enables management, enabling it to respond to customers' needs and supply requests without any problems.
■ I heard that you were in charge of the exhibition at Asung Korea’s Power Electronics Conference. What was the reason and goal for participating in this exhibition?
Recently, the industry has been seeing a significant increase in the electric vehicle market, and as a result, the demand for semiconductors in the automobile industry is also increasing exponentially.
To respond to this trend, Asung has long been focusing on the supply of automotive electronic components, and is supplying large quantities of electrical components to many customers.

However, while the company has mainly supplied LSI and discrete products centered on peripheral circuits inside automobiles up until now, through recent collaborations with companies such as Star Power and Polfair Electric, it has been able to secure a parts lineup and development-related technologies capable of responding to solutions for traction inverters, which are the core of electric vehicles.
This exhibition was prepared to inform many industry professionals about Asung's product line card and technological prowess.
■ What are the description and special features of Asung Korea’s electric vehicle drive inverter?
As mentioned above, through recent collaborations with companies such as Star Power and Polfair, we have secured product supply capabilities and related technologies for traction inverters, which are the core of electric vehicle technology, in addition to our existing passive component-focused business.

The advantage of Asung's traction inverter solution is that it can provide total solutions for components required for electric vehicles, including gate driver and control board solutions, high-power devices such as SiC and IGBT, LSI, MLCC, resistors, and sensors, based on secured line cards and technologies.
In addition to the stable supply of parts, Asung established a corporate research institute at the end of last year and currently operates its own technical staff of about 10 people.
Based on this technological prowess, Asung boasts that its solution's advantage lies in not only being able to stably supply high-quality parts, but also being able to provide high-quality technological prowess to the customer's development department during the product development process.
■ I wonder what strategy will be used to pioneer the electric vehicle drive inverter market.
As the electric vehicle industry market has grown, tens of thousands of related companies are doing their best in their respective positions.
However, among the numerous companies, there are not many that have the technology for drive inverters and can carry out development, and many companies are putting in a lot of effort to secure related technology.
With the sales know-how accumulated for over 30 years, Asung provides customers with high-quality SiC, IGBT power devices, insulated gate driver ICs, and other core components as well as MLCCs, resistors, and diodes.It can be urgent.
