Local/remote wake-up function supports multiple standby modes…minimizes power consumption
Available for gateways, HVAC controllers, PKES, TCUs, and control panels STMicroelectronics (ST) has launched a range of automotive power management ICs with a variety of options.
STMicroelectronics today announced the launch of the SPSB081, a multi-function automotive power-management IC that integrates a main low-dropout (LDO) regulator with a fixed voltage, a variable auxiliary LDO, four high-side drivers, a CAN FD transceiver, and optional LIN transceiver.
The IC minimizes power consumption by supporting multiple standby modes with very low standby current and programmable local or remote wake-up capabilities.
Power sources and transceivers are provided on-chip, simplifying the design of body controllers for sunroofs, seats, tailgates, doors, and lighting modules.
Because of its high adaptability, this controller can also be used in △gateways △HVAC controllers △PKES (Passive Keyless Entry System) △TCU (Telematic Control Unit) △control panels.
This family includes one CAN transceiver and a fixed 3.3V or 5V LDO, respectively. They are available as SPSB081C3 and SPSB081C5.
The SPSB0813 and SPSB0815 also feature an additional LIN transceiver. The auxiliary LDO included in all products is programmable via the IC’s SPI port and can operate as an independent 3.3 V or 5 V regulator or can be used to track the output voltage of the main LDO.
The four high-side drivers can supply up to 140mA of current to power LEDs and sensors, and feature a 10-bit PWM timer and current monitoring function for each channel.
Extensive integrated protection features and diagnostic output pins for fail-safe signaling are also provided.
These features support applications that must meet functional safety requirements according to ISO 26262 even if they were not designed with safe hardware components.
All outputs have overcurrent protection and open load fault indication. The main (fixed) LDO has overvoltage protection and thermal protection circuits, while the auxiliary (programmable) LDO has overload, overtemperature, short-circuit, and reverse bias protection.
Both LDOs provide short-to-ground monitoring at startup and continuous regulator fault monitoring.
The AEC-Q100 qualified SPSB081 family supports the -40°C to 150°C temperature range and operates up to 175°C. All devices are in production now in the thermally enhanced 5 mm x 5 mm x 1 mm QFN32L package, priced starting at $1.80 in quantities of 1,000.
