STMicroelectronics (ST) has introduced a solution that enables rapid development of new products with new features in the rapidly changing wireless product market.
ST announced on the 16th that it has launched two new products that enable the next generation of smart short-range wireless connectivity devices that are smaller, more durable and more efficient.
The latest Bluetooth specifications are creating new opportunities to make devices smarter, enabling designers to develop products such as wireless beacons and devices that can calculate location with centimeter-level accuracy indoors.
ST's latest Bluetooth solution reduces the time it takes for designers to understand new specifications and bring new product ideas to life.
ST's new STM32WB09 wireless microcontroller packs all the necessary processing power and Bluetooth radio technology into a single chip that designers can place directly on their boards and connect to other components.
It comes with the latest Bluetooth 5.3 software, allowing designers to take advantage of the extensive development ecosystem that ST has built to support its STM32 microcontroller family.

Suitable for experienced designers, the STM32WB09 IC benefits from an ultra-small Chip-Scale Package option that is among the smallest on the market today.
For customers who lack sufficient engineering skills and resources, ST supports the STM32WB1MMC module.
This module simplifies wireless connectivity by featuring a certified wireless microcontroller pre-integrated with Bluetooth software as well as the external components required for a wireless system.
This module enables product developers to implement high-performance wireless products and reduce project risks with only basic radio frequency engineering skills, allowing customers to easily utilize wireless functions and focus on increasing added value by developing their own firmware.
ST offers the B-WB1M-WPAN1 evaluation board, which powers up and ready-to-use Bluetooth modules for easier development. The board also has other convenient features, including motion, temperature and pressure sensors that can be integrated into your system, as well as an industry-standard connector for connecting to an external antenna.
“The B-WB1M-WPAN1 development board enabled us to easily develop our WB1M module and seamlessly add BLE connectivity to our applications, enabling us to deliver next-generation applications to our customers,” said Michael Otterbein, group leader for embedded hardware development at telematics solutions company Proemion.
The STM32WB09 wireless microcontroller, STM32WB1MMC turnkey wireless module, and B-WB1M-WPAN1 module evaluation board are all in production and can be used for new designs.
